SK provided technical support to a component of a UK funded Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facility (NIAF) project. The Rural Roads project was aimed at providing employment for low skill individuals and improving the country’s rural road infrastructure through a public works programme. SK was contracted to deploy an adviser and support the development of a system that had two core functions. First, biometric enrollment of beneficiaries, then confirming which individuals were present and working. Secondly, the technical evaluation function allowed project field officers to monitor the progress of the road works under repair using a mobile application to produce GPS tagged reports complete with imagery and attendance records. This gave the project, and also the Nigerian state and federal government, increased oversight of the project’s progress and helped to combat fraudulent activity.
